Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Online Quiz

Introduction

Welcome to the online version of the ASE Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling program. Technicians who service motor vehicle air conditioners must be trained and certified by a US EPA-approved organization. Training programs must cover the use of recycling equipment in compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, refrigerant containment, and the effects of ozone depletion. To be certified, technicians must pass a test demonstrating their knowledge in these areas. The ASE Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Review and Quiz is an EPA-approved Section 609 Technician Certification Program.

Note: The ASE Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Review and Quiz is an EPA-approved program that meets Section 609 regulations as set forth in Section 609 of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. Accordingly, this program is intended only for technicians servicing motor vehicle air conditioning. Under no circumstances should this program be considered as acceptable for Section 608 compliance, a separate requirement that applies to the servicing of other types of air conditioning systems, such as those used in commercial and residential applications. Furthermore, some state and local jurisdictions have adopted their own requirements for credentials, so check with your state and local authorities for details.

Certification earned as a result of a passing score on the online quiz is only deemed as certification in the context of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This credential is not the equivalent of technical certification from the main ASE testing and certification program.

Payment and Security

To take the online quiz, you must first make payment with one of four major credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover. These are the only forms of payment accepted. The fee for the quiz is $15. Your payment information will be recorded on a secure web server using Secured Socket Layer Technology (SSL). This is compatible with versions 4.0 and higher of Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. These browsers encrypt the information you send, making it extremely difficult for anyone else to decode. (You don't need to worry about whether your browser supports secure transactions. If it doesn't, you won't be able to access and complete the payment form.) After successfully registering, you will receive an e-mail receipt notification from payflow.com, confirming payment for the online quiz.

General Instructions

If you elect to review the training material before taking the quiz, you may want to print out the material beforehand for reference.

The quiz has no time limit. After you finish the quiz, review the questions and then click the Submit button to submit your quiz for grading. If you fail to click the submit button, the last question will be lost (if it has not been already answered).

We provide you with eScratch Paper™. This allows you to type in comments about this question for use when you review it later. You can choose to not use this feature on any question. This is for your use only and will not affect your score.

Navigation buttons enable you to move forward and backward through the exam. There are buttons to move you to the next, previous, first and last questions. You can navigate to another question without answering the current one. For example, you may click the Next button to move to the next question whether or not you have answered the current question.

When you navigate to another question, your answer and eScratch Paper™ notes for the current question are saved. You may also "Bookmark" a question and review "bookmarked" questions at any time by clicking the Review button. Clicking the Review button will take you to the "Review Bookmarked Questions" page. On this page, you may link directly to questions you have "bookmarked."

If you have left any questions unanswered, clicking the Submit button will present you with a list of the unanswered questions and allow you to return to each question so that you may answer it. It is to your advantage to answer all of the questions. Scoring is based on the number of correct answers. So, it is better to guess than to leave a question blank. Once you click the Submit button (and all questions are answered), you will no longer have access to the quiz. Your quiz will be automatically graded and you will immediately see your pass/fail results. You must answer at least 24 out of 30 questions correctly to receive a passing score and credentials from ASE.

Important! Please remember to print the quiz results page for your records to serve as a temporary credential. It is good for 60 days from the date of issue. If you do not print the quiz results page and close your web browser, you will not be able to go back and get your temporary credentials! (You will, however, receive a back-up notification of your results via e-mail).

Loss of Connection

Should you lose your connection during the quiz or experience a computer problem, please reconnect to the Internet and use your Login and UserID. Go to your personal home page and launch the quiz again using the Resume link. You may then resume the quiz where you left off.
