Objective: To provide training and recognition to entry-level personnel interesting in honing their Light Vehicle Maintenance and Inspection Skills.
Scope of Program: The ASE M&I Program consists of five modules.
The first four are e-learning training and review modules; the fifth module is a quiz:
- Preparation and Documentation
- Fluids, Filters, Belts and Hoses Inspection and Service
- Suspension, Tire, and Brake Inspection and Service
- Body, Battery, Charging and Electrical Systems Inspection and Service
- Forty-question quiz.
Format: ASE’s M&I program is delivered exclusively online and consists of e-learning training modules with audio and visual content, interactive exercises and questions and other content designed to engage the attention of today’s Internet generation. Standard practices are stressed throughout each module. A glossary and “safety zone” are included to promote further learning and awareness of safety issues. A “Bookmark” function allows the user to stop and exit a given module and return without losing place.
Program Development: The program’s task list was developed and reviewed by respected M&I subject matter experts, while ASE’s technical specialists developed the content. Each of the four training modules includes task interactions designed to reinforce key points. At the end of each section, a knowledge-check encourages review of content just learned. Upon completion of all four modules, the final quiz is presented.
Test Schedule and Fees: The ASE M&I E-Learning Program is available online and can be taken at the user’s convenience. The $39.99 cost includes all four of the training modules, plus the quiz. To purchase or obtain more information, visit ASE’s website at www.ase.com.
Requirements: This is an entry-level program, not a technician certification. It is appropriate for entry-level employees with an interest in or plans to pursue work in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Inspection.
Recognition: Those who pass the 40-question quiz may print a customized certificate indicating “ASE Recognition in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Inspection.”
About ASE: The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) was founded in 1972 as a non-profit, independent entity dedicated to improving the quality of automobile and truck service and repair through the voluntary testing and certification of technicians. Nearly 400,000 automobile and truck service and repair professionals hold current ASE certifications. ASE also offers other programs of interest and value to automotive professionals.
