1. What is this medallion for?

The medallion is to recognize and thank individuals who have demonstrated their dedication to professional automotive service through 25 years of ASE certification.

2. How many people have earned this honor?

Since 1972, more than 1.6 million people have registered for ASE tests. Almost 21,000 of these, or a little over 1%, have qualified to receive the medallion as of 2008.

3. I have been certified for over 30 years; why am I just now getting the medallion?

We began this recognition program in Summer 2008. Many of the initial recipients were in the "25 year-plus" category. Going forward, each person should receive his medallion when he reaches the 25-year mark.

4. Do I have to be a Master technician to qualify?

No, just be certified in one or more ASE test areas for a total of 25 years and be currently certified.

5. I first became certified more than 25 years ago. Why haven't I received a medallion?

Most likely because your certifications lapsed at some point along the way. The recognition is based on the total number of years you have been certified, not how long ago you first became certified. You must also be currently certified to qualify.

6. Do I have to be continuously certified for 25 years to qualify?

No, you can have gaps in your certification history, as long as the total number of years certified is 25 or more, and you are currently certified.

7. How do you determine how many years a person has been certified?

We look at your ASE record in July of each year. If you have one or more current certifications, you get credit for that year. If you have let your certifications lapse, you don't get credit for that year. If you later recertify, you continue to add to your total.

8. I have been certified in five different tests for the past five years. Does that add up to 25 years of certification?

Sorry, no. You would only have earned five years so far. But please do recertify.

9. I finally reached my 25th year. When do I get my medallion? Do I have to ask for it?

Each July, we will identify everyone who is eligible and has not already received a medallion. If you qualify, we will send you one automatically. You don't have to request it.

10. If I have 25 years of certification, are there any other reasons that I would not have gotten a medallion?

You would not receive a medallion if you owe ASE for previous testing fees, if you are not currently certified, or if we don't have a current address on file for you. So please let us know if you move.
