2. Are older (pre-2009) versions of the ASE Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Program booklet obsolete?

No, you can still use an older booklet for reference if you choose to mail its enclosed quiz to ASE for scoring. However, if you want to take the quiz online, ASE recommends you use the latest version for reference. It can be downloaded by clicking here. In either case, a passing score on the quiz grants you the proper credentials to satisfy EPA Section 609 requirements.

6. Is this an ASE Certification?

No. The Refrigerant Recovery Program was designed to meet the training and testing requirements of Section 609 of the Clean Air Act, as defined by the EPA. It provides ASE Recognition, not certification.

7. Does my ASE Heating and Air Conditioning certification (A7, H7, S7, or T7) satisfy the EPA Section 609 requirements for refrigerant recovery and recycling?

No. The ASE Heating and Air Conditioning certification test was designed to test a broader range of knowledge. Therefore, it does not provide what the EPA requires for “certification” in refrigerant recovery and recycling. The ASE Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Review and Quiz is the only product offered by ASE that fulfills the EPA requirements.
