Bobby Bassett
Gates Corporation

It is an honor to serve as Chairman of ASE. I am looking forward to working with our partners from the aftermarket and OE segments of the industry to enhance the value of ASE, not only among service professionals and industry members, but among consumers as well. We have a robust agenda of goals we want to accomplish, but first, I’d like to address the challenging times we are currently facing.

Now more than ever, our transportation infrastructure needs skilled individuals with professional credentials to keep the supply chain and motoring public going. It is for that reason that ASE has automatically extended all ASE certifications expiring on June 30, 2020 to a new date of December 31, 2020. Service professionals have plenty on their minds and do not need to worry about expiring ASE certifications. They have the full support of ASE and we thank them for their commitment to professionalism and dedicated service, today and every day.

Brighter days will come, and with them will come an increasing need for highly motivated, well-trained professional service technicians. With ongoing advancements in technology, we must look ahead and work to address a significant challenge that we face as an industry – a shortage of professional technicians and educators that have the knowledge and skills to service the vehicles of today and tomorrow.

That is why we introduced the newly defined mission of ASE: To serve the transportation industry as an independent third party that upholds and promotes high standards of service and repair through the assessment, certification and credentialing of current and future industry professionals.

Today, ASE is more relevant than ever before, and our mission more critical, as the industry seeks to attract more talented professionals and ensure they are proficient in new technologies.

On behalf of the ASE Board of Governors, we thank you for your support and wish you all the best during these trying times.

We hope that you and your family are doing okay in these unprecedented times. Our overriding priority at ASE remains the health and safety of you and your families.

We want to give you an update about ASE testing and let you know how that affects you. Prometric is opening some limited testing on May 1st, however ASE testing will not be available until at least May 18th, and most likely not in every area of the country at that time. Prometric has put safety measures in place and will also be following state and local guidelines in opening test centers.

  • If you are currently scheduled to test between May 1st and May 17th, your appointment is being cancelled. You can reschedule your test appointment for anytime between May 18th and September 30th.
  • If you have a testing appointment between May 18th and June 30th, there is a chance your appointment will be cancelled by Prometric to allow for social distancing at the test centers.
    • If Prometric cancels your appointment, you can reschedule your test appointment for any time up until September 30th.
    • If your appointment is not cancelled; however, and you are concerned about being at the test center, you are welcome to cancel your appointment and reschedule any time until September 30th.
  • If you have signed up for testing but have not scheduled an appointment, you now have up until September 30th to take the test(s).
  • If you would like to sign up for testing, we have extended the usual 90-day window to test until September 30th. Hopefully this will provide a comfortable additional time frame to test and allow you to test prior to the year-end rush.

You may be receiving emails and information directly from Prometric. We are all trying to provide you information to reduce uncertainty and provide clarity. As always, we are here to help each one of you.

Please coordinate your testing with your employer and review the safety measures that Prometric has put in place by visiting https://www.prometric.com/corona-virus-update. If you have any questions or concerns, we can be reached at 1-800-390-6789 or email us at contactus@ase.com.

Again, your safety is of paramount importance to us. Please continue to follow the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) at home and work and know that you have the full support of ASE as you keep the motoring public going.
