If English is your second language, you may bring a standard published English-foreign language dictionary to use in the test. However, the dictionary will be inspected before and after the test for notes or inserted pages. Photocopied, hand-written, unbound, or electronic glossaries or dictionaries are not allowed. Except for inspected English-foreign language dictionaries, you may not bring any aids, manuals, books, or notes into the testing room.
To aid in the translation of technical terms for technicians whose primary language is Spanish, ASE provides a button in the computer-based testing system labeled ‘Glosario’, as shown below. Clicking on that button during the test opens a window that displays our English-Spanish Glossary of Technical Terms. Test takers may use this option during testing if they would benefit from a Spanish translation of the term. The glossary is automatically included in all ASE computer-based tests, and you can use it as much or as little as you choose.
The English-Spanish Glossary is compiled by a panel of bilingual technical experts and takes into account the various dialects of Spanish commonly spoken. You can download a copy of the glossary by clicking here, and use it when preparing for the tests. However, you may not bring a copy of the glossary that you printed into the test with you.
Glosario Inglés-Español
Si el inglés es su segundo idioma, usted puede tener consigo, para usar en el examen, un diccionario inglés-español. Sin embargo, se inspeccionará su diccionario antes y después en busca de notas o páginas insertadas. No se permiten glosarios o diccionarios electrónicos, fotocopiados, manuscritos o no encuadernados. Con excepción de diccionarios no electrónicos inspeccionados en inglés-lengua extranjera, usted no podrá traer al salón del examen fuentes de ayuda, manuales, libros o notas.
Para ayudar en la traducción de términos técnicos a los especialistas cuyo primer idioma es el español, ASE provee un botón en el sistema computarizado para el examen denominado Glosario, tal como aparece abajo. Al hacer ¨clic¨ en ese botón durante el examen, se abre una ventana que muestra nuestro Glosario Inglés/Español de Términos Técnicos. Los candidatos que toman el examen pueden utilizar esta opción durante el examen si se beneficiarían de una traducción en español del término. El glosario se incluye automáticamente en todas los exámenes computarizados de ASE, y usted puede utilizar lo tanto o tan poco como usted desea.
El Glosario inglés-español ha sido el producto de un taller de trabajo de expertos técnicos bilingües, habiendo tomado en cuenta las varias formas comunes de hablar el español. Usted puede descargar un ejemplar del Glosario haciendo clic aquí y utilizarlo cuando se esté preparando para los exámenes. Sin embargo usted no podrá traer consigo al examen el ejemplar del glosario que imprimió.
