IC Bus to Provide ASE xEV Certification Tests for High School Students in Accredited Truck Programs

Leesburg, Virginia – July 26, 2023 – The ASE Education Foundation is partnering with school transportation industry leader, IC Bus, LLC, to sponsor 1,000 high school students and their instructors at ASE-accredited medium/heavy truck training programs to take ASE’s xEV Electrical Safety Awareness Certification Level 1 test (ASE.com/ev).

The Foundation will collaborate with schools and their local IC Bus ® dealers to promote high-tech careers in the truck and bus field, ensure that the students receive electric vehicle (EV) safety training and deliver testing vouchers for the students in the 2023-24 school year.

“This partnership allows us to work directly with IC Bus dealers and our schools to promote EV safety awareness and let students earn industry-recognized credentials for working safely around this rapidly expanding technology,” said Mike Coley, president of the ASE Education Foundation.

“We shared this with our instructors at our annual instructor training conference last week and they all are looking forward to participating in this generous offering from IC Bus.” ASE recently published Electric Vehicle Technician/Shop Personnel Electrical Safety Standards.

The purpose of the standards is to provide guidance, document and establish electrical safety requirements, standards, procedures and safe work practices relating to the development of an electrically safe working area for service professionals in North America working on or around

electrified vehicles (xEVs). In addition to the EV Standards, ASE has developed a new testing and certification program for all xEV vehicles including light duty and medium/heavy duty hybrid/electric vehicles (EVs) based on the standards. This industry-developed program provides two options to certify students and service employees based on their involvement with EVs. The certification tests are available at www.ase.com/ev.
