June is Automotive Service Professionals Month and the ASE Education Foundation is celebrating the valuable service provided by automotive service professionals and encouraging students to consider automotive repair as a career path.
“Repairing today’s complex vehicle systems requires highly skilled professionals. It takes years of education and on-the-job training to handle diagnostic repair challenges as well as fundamental repairs,” said Mike Coley, president of the ASE Education Foundation. “Automotive Service Professionals Month ties into the efforts of the ASE Education Foundation. It is a great time for us to highlight various automotive career opportunities, such as service technicians, parts specialists and service consultants, and show students what a rewarding career automotive service can be.”
The ASE Education Foundation evaluates and accredits entry-level automotive technology education programs and develops career-readiness education for students which fuse local partnerships, rigorous standard-based education, workplace experience, and mentorship together.
In addition, the Foundation works to introduce students to automotive repair through work-based learning experiences, such as internships and apprenticeships, in service and repair facilities. Giving students work-based opportunities exposes them to the industry and surveys show that these experiences help keep young technicians engaged, increasing retention rates.
“By giving more automotive technology students an opportunity to explore rewarding automotive careers and learn the skills needed to succeed, we can develop more motivated entry-level technicians and service personnel,” continued Coley. “The demand for automotive service professionals is greater than ever before. The ASE Education Foundation serves as the conduit between career-minded students and automotive business employers looking to hire career-ready talent.”
