Subaru is committed to making the customer experience a key driver of why consumers choose to purchase Subaru vehicles. That commitment includes ensuring that our stores and service departments have well-trained, knowledgeable technicians.

  1. Go to myASE. Create an account if needed and make sure that your Subaru Training ID is stored in your myASE account.
  2. Register for one or more of the tests through Subaru Technical Training (details below).
    • Log in to the SKILS Welcome page and click Browse for Training.
    • In the Type section, click the icon that resembles a clipboard with a test on it.
    • View the available Test-Out options and click the title of the one for the appropriate Skill Group you wish to register for.
    • Click the Request button. Note - If you do not have your ASE Technician ID ready to enter on the next screen, DO NOT click request. Use the Back button on your browser to return to the previous page and come back when you have your ID ready to enter.
    • Enter your First and Last names with NO punctuation, and enter your ASE Technician ID formatted as ASE-1111-1111 and then click Submit.
  3. Within 10 days, you will receive an email from ASE, confirming that you are registered. Make sure you have the requested tests, then log onto myASE to schedule your testing appointment. You have 90 days to make an appointment and complete your tests. You can take the tests all at once, or spread them out over several appointments; whichever works best for you. To find testing centers close to you, click here.
  4. Optional – while you are logged in, you can also register for ASE certification tests. Because the registration fee has already been paid, you can register and only pay the test fees. You can also schedule and take ASE tests at the same time you are taking the Subaru Training Opt-Out tests.
  5. On your scheduled test date, show up on time at the test center with your current (unexpired) government-issued photo ID in hand. When you finish your Subaru tests, you will receive a printed Notice of Completion to show that you took the test. You will also receive a Pass/Fail score report for any ASE certification tests you take.
  6. Within 10 business days, Subaru Training will let you know whether you successfully tested out or still need to enroll and attend the Subaru Level 2 training class.

When combined with Subaru training requirements, ASE Certifications help Subaru’s retailer technicians possess the necessary skills to "Fix It Right the First Time."

This combined with completion of the Subaru training path, help drive an exceptional customer experience everyday at every retailer.

  • ASE is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of automotive service and repair through the voluntary testing and certification of automotive professionals.
  • ASE Certification is a valuable yardstick by which to measure the knowledge and skills of individual technicians as well as the commitment to quality of the repair facility employing ASE Certified professionals.
  • By displaying ASE Certification and Subaru training accomplishments, you instill customer confidence in your store and Subaru vehicles.

To achieve Subaru Senior Master Technician status, you must successfully complete Subaru Level 5 Training and have 5 years Subaru experience based on the date of your first instructor-led technical training class. You are required to be ASE certified in the following areas:

  • A1 Engine Repair
  • A2 Automatic Transmission
  • A3 Manual Drivetrain & Axles

If you have never registered for an ASE test, visit and select the Create myASE Account link in the myASE login box. You will then be prompted through several screens to provide information about yourself to set up your account.

Subaru and ASE have an agreement to allow ASE Certification status to transfer into Subaru’s learning management system. To enable the transfer of your ASE credentials to Subaru, you must:

  1. Log in to your myASE account.
  2. Select the Profile tab.
  3. Select the "Release my ASE status to others" checkbox and then select the Submit button.
  4. You must also add your Subaru Training ID to your myASE profile. (To do that, see the next question and answer.)

Creating a myASE account is simple. Making sure you have your Subaru Id on file and Release = OK is not always as simple.

If you have already created a myASE account, then:

  1. Log in to your myASE account.
  2. Select Company-Assigned ID.
  3. Select the Add Company-Assigned ID button.
  4. Select Subaru from the Company drop-down menu and enter your Subaru Training ID (usually four letters and four numbers, similar to jsmi1234 or 5678bjon) and then select Submit.
  5. Select the Profile tab to review your information and check on your release status. Confirm that your information is correct.
  6. Select the "Release my ASE status to others" checkbox and then select the Submit button.
  1. Log in to your myASE account.
  2. Select Store link.
  3. Select the checkbox(s) for the ASE Certification Test(s) for which you wish to register.
  4. After going through several prompts, you can schedule your appointment. If you have multiple tests to schedule, you may also select the "Select All" checkbox.
  5. Then you can Find the Test Center that is most convenient for you and select the Schedule an Appointment link to find available locations.
  6. Once you have scheduled your test appointments you will be directed to an Appointment Confirmation page where you should see the correct date/time for your ASE Certification test(s). Select either the Print Registration Ticket button to print your registration ticket, or select Continue to complete the registration process.

The results from ASE are imported from ASE on a weekly basis, but it can take up to two weeks for the Center of Learning to receive certification results after completion. If you have already provided ASE with your Subaru Training ID and checked the “Release my ASE Status to others” in myASE and your records have not transferred, please contact ASE at (703) 669-6600.

In response to the Subaru Retailers, the Subaru Technical Training Department in partnership with ASE designed and developed special tests to measure the technical competencies associated with several Subaru Level 2 instructor-led programs. The tests cover the knowledge of fundamentals in diagnosis and repair in the following five specialty areas:

  • Engines
  • Transmissions
  • Fuel Systems
  • Electrical Systems
  • Brake Systems

Subaru retailer technicians who have not completed their Level 2 instructor-led training can take one or all of the tests. Those who pass will be credited with Level 2 instructor-led course competency in that specialty area. Technicians who don’t pass will need to complete the corresponding Subaru training class.

To ensure security and reliability, Subaru partnered with ASE to deliver the tests. Technicians can register for these tests through the Subaru Technical Training Department. They then have 90 days to schedule testing appointments and take the tests at any of ASE's nearly 500 test centers nationwide.

Each test contains 50 questions, and technicians have an hour to complete it.

The Subaru tests cost the same as ASE Certification tests, including the registration fee. The cost of the test is billed to your store directly by Subaru Training.

ASE certification promotes good automotive service. It’s also part of a great business strategy.

You probably already know that one of your biggest assets is your people — and one of your best competitive advantages is the confidence your customers place in your technicians.

When your technicians have ASE certification, it shows that your technicians know what they’re doing — and that they’re also a step above the average technician. That’s good for your customer’s peace of mind, and great for your business. Helping your employees become certified is also an excellent way to allow them to develop in their careers — and that can increase employee loyalty.

As a savvy business owner, you can go even further. If more than 75% of your technicians are ASE certified, you can qualify for the Blue Seal of Excellence Recognition Program. This high-impact program allows you to maximize customer awareness of your focus on quality personnel, with ready-to-use marketing materials, advertising opportunities, and more.
